Marco Sarno

Clinical Dental Technician

Marco Sarno Dip CDT RCS (Eng) GDC No. 117438

Marco began his career in Dental Technology in 1981 at a commercial laboratory. After attending the South London College and completing an apprenticeship, Marco opened his own laboratory in Bedford in 1989, offering a full range of advanced dental restorations to the dental profession.

Marco then opened a denture clinic in 2003 after qualifying from the renowned George Brown College in Toronto. His aim was to provide patients with a successful solution to their denture problems adopting an elemental approach. Marco uses a range of methods including the Dr. Gerber technique, the BPS system and the lingualised concept, incorporating them into the overall treatment plan. Denture cases are treated in a unique manner, using the latest techniques and face bow registrations to record accurately and register the precise relationship of the upper and lower jaw to each other. Advance techniques such as this allow Marco to provide denture treatments that prove highly successful in terms of function and appearance.

Marco sat on the boards of various dental advisory groups within the UK and was instrumental in changing the law with the introduction of Clinical Dental Technicians in the UK, giving a speech in the House of Commons in 2007. He continues to attend courses as part of his continued professional development to enhance his patient’s denture experience. He looks forward to helping you achieve denture confidence and well being.

Marco was also employed by the University of London as a DCP Tutor (Dental Care Professional) to teach advanced techniques in complete denture therapy.

Marco is a highly skilled Clinical Dental Technician with over 35 years experience in his field and prides himself in producing the highest quality dentures. His level of precision and craftsmanship are unique, as is his enthusiasm to ensure the best results for all his patients.

He believes in giving his personal attention to each patient and takes the time and care to discuss each stage of treatment to ensure all your personal needs and preferences are achieved. He personally carries out each stage in constructing and processing your dentures in the on site laboratory, followed by the fit and several aftercare appointments for any adjustments that are needed.

Marco featured in the Denturism Canada spring/printemps 2008, page 29-34 - Examining The Biofunctional Prosthetic System by Marco Sarno focusing on the gothic arch tracing technique and preliminary and difinitive impressions. The Denturism Canada Magazine is syndicated worldwide and the scientific paper was adopted by CPD in Practice Magazine.

What is a Clinical Dental Technician?

Clinical Dental Technicians (CDT's) are newly regulated and registered members of the dental team (Dental Care Professionals – DCP's). Regulated to the same standards as Dental Surgeons by the GDC, we are already trained and registered Dental Technicians working directly with patients in a wide variety of working arrangements and environments.

CDT's are the only DCP's who can treat patients independently of Dentists in certain circumstances. We have been specially trained to provide high quality prosthetic solutions to our patients in both the technical and clinical side of treatment and are considered expert in providing safe, quality care for patients who require our skills:

Taking detailed dental and medical histories

Performing technical and clinical procedures related to removable dental appliances

Undertaking clinical examinations

Taking and processing radiographs and other images related to removable dental appliances

Distinguishing between normal and abnormal consequences of ageing

Fitting and adjusting removable appliances

Recognising abnormal oral mucosa and related underlying structures then making appropriate referrals and providing appropriate advice to patients

Good materials on their own will not make good dentures, a skilful and experienced Clinician Dental Technical are required. The best results are achieved when the whole job is done by the same person.

Dentures require maintenance, it is vital that you have them checked and cleaned annually by a Clinical Dental Technician.
